Overview

The Sweden Job Seeker Visa is a residence permit that allows you to enter Sweden and look for work. It is not a work permit — you cannot take up employment on it. It is the correct route when you are qualified, already in the Swedish labour market's target profile, and do not yet have an employer to sponsor you. Migrationsverket assesses two things: that you hold a qualification matching a shortage occupation in Sweden, or that you hold a degree at Bachelor level or above; and that you can support yourself for the whole period of your stay. You must also show a genuine intention to find work in Sweden. There is no job offer required for this permit, and you cannot combine it with self-employment. The permit is granted for a maximum of nine months. If you have not found work within that time, you may apply once for an extension of up to three months — we help you assess whether that extension is realistic before you spend further funds. Once you receive a genuine job offer, you apply for a Swedish work permit, and up to three years of offered work time can count toward the seven-year requirement for permanent residence.
