Cyprus Student Visa & Residence Permit
Entry permit and one-year renewable residence permit for English-taught study in Cyprus, from admission through to first enrolment.
Overview
Cyprus runs one of the clearest student immigration systems in Europe, and for Pakistani applicants it is usually the fastest European study permit to obtain once an acceptance letter is in hand. Cyprus has been a full member of Schengen since 2016 and applies Schengen visa rules at its external borders, so entry is handled under the EU framework. Third-country nationals do not apply for a residence permit directly from Pakistan. The route works in two stages. Stage one is the entry permit. Once a university recognised in the Republic of Cyprus accepts you, the university itself files the application with the Civil Registry and Migration Department on your behalf. Some applicants alternatively apply for a national long-stay visa through a Cypriot diplomatic mission, but the university-filed entry permit is the fastest and most common route, because the university has already verified your academic paperwork. Complete applications are examined within one month, and that clock pauses whenever documents are missing. Stage two is the temporary residence permit. Within seven days of arriving you submit form MEDU1 or MEDUM1 to the Civil Registry and Migration Department, provide biometric data including a photograph, fingerprints and signature, and complete a medical examination covering blood tests for hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis, plus a chest X-ray for tuberculosis. Those medical results remain valid for four months, so completing them too early means repeating them. Residence permit applications are examined within three months, and the permit is normally issued for one year and renewed annually until you complete your programme. On money, the authorities require formal proof that you can cover tuition and living costs, and in practice they ask for confirmation from a bank rather than a self-generated statement. Individual universities set their own thresholds on top of that — for example a minimum account balance in the region of EUR 800 for the residence permit at the University of Cyprus, or a bank statement showing around EUR 7,000 for applicants to the Cyprus University of Technology. Present your funds comfortably above the stated figure, not at it. The published fees are modest: EUR 70 for an entry permit and residence permit application, EUR 140 where the Aliens Registration Card is included, EUR 55 for a residence permit issuance or renewal, and EUR 70 for first-time Aliens Register registration. Our Cyprus visa consultants in Islamabad handle the whole chain — shortlisting institutions, the application and fee payment, the university's filing with the authorities, and the medical, biometrics and residence permit stages after you land. Applying as soon as your acceptance letter arrives is what keeps your intake date safe.

Visa Validity & Stay
The student entry permit allows you to enter Cyprus and lodge the residence permit application. The temporary residence permit is issued for up to one year and is renewable annually on the same study basis until your programme is completed. You must remain enrolled full time, keep your insurance valid, and renew before expiry. EU students who already hold a study permit in another member state can study and work in Cyprus for up to 360 days under an EU mobility programme or a university agreement.

Visa Interview Guidelines
Cyprus is document-led rather than interview-led, and the entry permit is filed by your university rather than by you. Some consulates may request an interview for national long-stay visa applicants — expect questions about your programme, your funding source and where you will live. Be ready to state your tuition fee, who is paying and your accommodation arrangement, and ensure those three answers match your acceptance letter, your bank confirmation and your housing booking exactly.

Important Tips for Applicants
- ✦Apply the day your acceptance letter arrives — the one-month entry permit window only runs once the file is complete.
- ✦Fund your account comfortably above the university's stated threshold rather than matching it exactly.
- ✦Complete the medical examinations after you land; results expire after four months.
- ✦Register and file MEDU1 or MEDUM1 within seven days of arrival.
- ✦Renew the residence permit annually before it expires — renewal is not automatic.
- ✦Never book non-refundable flights until the entry permit has been issued.
